EMPLOYMENT OF

MAINTENANCE WORKER

GLYNCORRWG PONDS

£5,000 – MICRO FUND – FEB 2017

As a result of the energy and commitment of local community members determined to make the most of their amazing landscape setting, Glyncorrwg Ponds and Mountain Bike Centre are world famous. The Centre is the base for a wide range of waymarked trails for walkers and is a world class venue for mountain bikers and a wide range of other outdoor activities – horse riding, fishing, heritage exploration. There are camping facilities, mountain bike hire and a café on site.

The application was for employment and training of a short-term post to carry out repair work and improvements. The Centre and its trails is a huge asset to the valley, continuing to bring visitors from across the UK and beyond to the area.

“We engaged a new employee to deliver the project. Amongst the work they carried out, they replaced and repaired damaged hand railings and steps around the ponds, edged paths, removed Canadian pond weed and helped with new decking and painting at front of the visitor centre. The employee was provided training by a manager and the teamwork between employee and manager was very efficient. Our footpaths, woodland trail, ponds and visitor centre were all improved by the project. The local and communities and visitors have benefitted from the improvements – the work was delayed by the bad weather in the summer and autumn and we will ask for better weather next time.” – Neil Bevan, Glyncorrwg Ponds Visitor Centre

“The need for the repairs was clear, and the employment and training of a short-term post was a creative way of carrying out the work allowing improvements to improve centre and offering employment. The grant from the fund was matched by their own funds and has been a positive experience for all – we wish the Ponds all the best as they continue improving and evolving.” – Barbara at Pen y Cymoedd
