The Afan Lodge Ltd is run as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Interest Company (PyC CIC), with its own board of directors to implement the strategy and drive the Lodge forward to success.

PyC CIC has been investing in communities and businesses across the upper reaches of the Neath, Afan, Rhondda and Cynon valleys since 2016. It purchased Afan Lodge in late 2019, to preserve it as an asset for the Afan Valley. We now need to expand the Board by the recruitment of additional directors who are passionate about this area, and excited about what can be achieved with an asset of this sort.

A knowledge of hotel and hospitality would be advantageous as is local knowledge gained by working or living in the area covered by the fund. More important, however, is a positive mindset and a desire to support the staff team with strategic direction and ideas. The Vision is for Afan Lodge to become both an established tourist attraction and much used community venue.

Currently, meetings take place monthly for up to half a day. The frequency of meetings should diminish as the Lodge becomes more established. We aim to ensure that dates and times of meetings are flexible to enable attendance.

We are looking for at least one general Board member and one Board member with finance skills (Treasurer)

Members are responsible for:

– ensuring that the organisation complies with its legal obligations and high standards of governance

– overseeing the day-to-day management and strategic direction of the Fund

– ensuring high levels of engagement with the local community and stakeholders

Remuneration is £300 a day (pro-rata for part days), along with reasonable travel costs.

Deadline for receipt of applications: 17.00, Friday 4th February 2022
