Pen y Cymoedd are proud to have recently supported Treorchy Local Markets a business based in Treorchy, Rhondda Fawr with a Vision Fund grant of £12,885.20
Treorchy Local Markets runs a Local Produce & Craft Market on the 2nd Saturday of each month providing customers with fresh local produce and locally produced crafts. It also offers local small businesses and sole traders a budget platform from which to sell their produce and increases visitor numbers and footfall into Treorchy High Street. They are also expanding with Sunday markets, Christmas markets and lots of other potential events across the year.
The proposal to us had been well-researched and evidenced. As well as offering opportunities for producers, the project results in increased trade for established Treorchy traders, encourages in and promotes businesses from other Area of Benefit communities and makes good and creative use of a previously little used site.
The market’s programme of activities for 2019 is ambitious but exciting. They applied to the fund for essential equipment for the site including 22 gazebos, banners, tables and chairs and a generator. The funded equipment will be available for community groups and the Chamber of Trade to use when markets are not taking place and indeed the equipment is already being lent out for the Christmas Parade this weekend. The storage container that was funded as part of this grant is going to be painted by the participants of Project 42 at the Treorchy & Cwmparc Boys & Girls Club with ‘Treorchy Markets’ in a graffiti style.
