Children and young people in Pentre are looking forward to having lots of sporty fun – thanks to a £81,435 Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund Vision Fund grant. We are delighted to announce this award to Canolfan Pentre, to support the installation of a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) close to the popular community venue.
Lots of formal and informal sports activities can take place in a MUGA, and they can be used by young people of all ages. The new facility will be a place where young people can meet, play, make friends and socialise safely – and its hard surface will make it possible for wheelchair users to participate in activities or just hang-out with their mates.
It will also promote physical exercise in a fun and enjoyable way! It’s recommended that children between the ages of 5 – 18 years old should participate in 60 minutes physical exercise a day – and there will be lots of opportunity now in Pentre to do that. All that’s needed is a ball and some friends!
Buffy Williams at Canolfan Pentre said “We are thrilled that Pen y Cymoedd are supporting our MUGA project, this Multi Usage Gaming Area will be a fantastic addition to the park area, the community of Pentre and the surrounding area. Building works will commence in March 2019. The MUGA will replace the disused, derelict park pool and will be open 365 days a year providing multi sports use. We are very excited and looking forward to the completion of this project.”
Why was this application supported?
-
The proposal came from young people themselves and was backed up by evidence of extensive local consultation to find out what people wanted and to assess support.
-
Canlofan Pentre is an established and competent group, playing a central role in the community and in constant use by people of all ages.
-
The space where the MUGA will be sited is adjacent to and overlooked by the Centre and will provide a popular addition to the range of activities offered.
-
The facility will be maintained by RCT CBC in the longer term
