This grant enabled the Community Hall to employ a local local volunteer to work for 20 hours a week within their Community Café Facility to enable the Centre to extend opening hours and provide an increased home delivery service to the elderly and less able within the community.
The new member of staff was trained by the centre in Food Hygiene and works with the Café Manager to provide a range of low cost meals on a daily basis. The Café was having to close on occasion due to a lack of staff, with a detrimental effect on both users who rely on the facility for their daily meals and on income for the Centre. The Association is the only community facility of its kind in Cwmparc and prices are set to ensure affordability for local residents – many people visit daily to for meals and to socialise. As well as providing local services, employment and volunteering opportunities, the group also offers free Food Hygiene training to the community

The project has resulted in an increase in revenue being achieved within the café. We also started to provide Sunday lunches with delivery to the elderly and less abled within the Community. This has proven to be one of our most successful days. This Micro Fund grant allowed us to employ somebody for 20 hours a week and then helped us to secure additional funding for 10 hours to employ that person for 30 hours a week. Now the project supported by grant has ended, due to increase in service and revenue in café we have been able to keep the member of staff employed within the café which is fantastic.” – Joanne Jones, Cwmparc Community Association.
We are so pleased that helping fund the employment of an additional worker has not only helped them provide new services, extend opening hours and increase revenue for the Community Centre but has led to ongoing employemnt for a local person.
