Pontrhydyfen Weight Training Club has been in the community since 1980. Based in Pontrhydyfen Community Centre, the group was set up by volunteers for the community to be able to train and improve their fitness, health & well-being. The gym provides accessibility to members who could not reach the wider commercial gyms, whilst keeping the costs as low as possible.

They approached Pen y Cymoedd to apply for a Vision Fund to purchase new gym equipment as their current equipment was over the recommended lifespan of equipment and members were regularly experiencing issues. We awarded them £6,500 to go toward replacing the older equipment with new, modern equipment to provide a better experience for their members and encourage new members to join the gym.

“We supported this as we want to encourage a wider range of opportunities locally to be healthy, active, and engaged and make sure that community spaces align with community needs.” – Shayla Walsh, Pen y Cymoedd Community Fund

“The Committee of Pontrhydyfen Weight Training Club were delighted to hear our grant application to Pen- y- Cymoedd was successful. We are very grateful that this grant has supported us to purchase some new training equipment, and we look forward to the installation being completed imminently. This means we are able to continue to provide a low priced health and wellbeing experience to the community using up to date apparatus.

Many thanks to Pen y Cymoedd from all at Pontrhydyfen Weight Training Club.” – Jonathan, Pontrhydyfen Weight Training Club
