The funding of £127,260 over 3 years will allow Tempo to develop a flagship volunteer project in the Cynon Valley, offering underrepresented and vulnerable groups, working-age individuals, and young people opportunities to engage in community volunteering and consultation. The funding will directly create a fulltime Cynon Development Officer role.

The beauty of the Time Credit model is that is has the unique potential to have a positive impact for whole community engagement, bringing local people together alongside corporate, statutory, and voluntary sectors.

“It can be difficult to find, keep, and support volunteers, but there are several advantages to this hyperlocal approach and intense support:

  • Expanding the community by fostering connections, offering support, and making sure more incredible community groups have the volunteers they need.
  • Individuals by expanding their access to opportunities, social interactions, jobs, and career skills.
  • Community Groups by strengthening, diversifying, and resilience of their organisations as they deliver essential community activities.

As a fund, we also assist businesses, so we are very interested to see how this hyperlocal program, which will establish connections with business to allow volunteers to earn time credits to spend at nearby shops and attractions, will benefit the valley’s business community and local economy in the long run” – Kate Breeze, Executive Director, Pen y Cymoedd

“We are thrilled to have been funded by the Pen Y Cymoedd vision fund which will enable us to launch a flagship volunteer project in the Cynon Valley. A key part of this project is employing someone locally to take on the full-time role of Cynon Development Officer, ensuring that this hyper-local programme is led by someone rooted in the community who understands the needs of local people.

The Time Credit model is uniquely powerful in bringing together local people, corporate, statutory, and voluntary sectors, creating a positive and lasting impact. We’re excited to embed Time Credits in the Cynon Valley to strengthen community bonds and empower individuals in the Cynon Valley to make a real difference in their lives and communities.” Rachel Gegeshidze, Chief Executive, Tempo
