We’d like to update the Afan valley community regarding the sale of Afan Lodge.
As you may be aware, Afan Lodge closed in November following a consultation period with staff. We had supported the Lodge since 2019, keeping the business active through some extremely difficult periods, including Covid and the ongoing cost of living crisis. However, it became clear the Lodge needed significant capital investment in order to achieve its full potential, and it was clear we were not the right organisation to take this forward.
A decision was taken to close, and continue with our efforts to sell Afan Lodge to ensure the community fund was protected long term.
A public sale process was led by expert group GS Verde. This process welcomed open bids, of which our board received and seriously considered several, with our preference being that a local business or group would purchase the building. Following the end of that process, we are going through with a sale to a local business group.
At the moment, as the sale is still in progress, we’re unable to share publicly who the buyer is. However, they share our commitment to ensuring the Afan Lodge is not empty for a prolonged period and appreciate the need to bring it into meaningful use as soon as possible.
We know Neath Port Talbot Council are aware of the process of the sale. We’ll continue to speak with local councillors and officials to ensure they are updated and can share those updates with you.
Should you have questions about the Afan Lodge, we encourage people to contact us directly. You can do this via Facebook, or on email to enquiries@penycymoeddcic.cymru
We’ll continue to speak to the community in Afan Valley about what matters to them and encourage residents to get in touch with us to discuss their ideas and ambitions for the fund.
