At Pen y Cymoedd, we’re passionate about backing bold, ambitious ideas that can make a real, long-term difference.
Treorchy RFC is a club with deep roots in its community – and a big vision for the future. In 2022, instead of simply refurbishing their much-loved but ageing clubhouse, they set their sights on something transformational: a brand-new facility by the pitch, designed to be a thriving hub for sport, community events, and local enterprise.
We awarded the club £25,000 to bring in specialists to carry out a full feasibility study. Over more than a year, they explored every option, consulted widely, and engaged the whole community in shaping the vision. The result? Overwhelming support for a new, multi-use building that could serve generations to come.
Recently, we brought funders and support agencies together at a joint meeting hosted at the club. This gave the team a chance to share progress, outline next steps, and show guests both the current facilities and the proposed new site. The passion and commitment on display left a real impression on everyone there.
This is just the start of a long journey – but the club’s energy and determination are clear. They’ve already formed dedicated working groups, recruited skilled trustees, spoken to potential tenants, and begun planning how the project will be funded and sustained.
