We supported Penaluna’s with £26,000 loan/grant mix for their new mobile shop ready to attend events, festivals and private functions.
Already a successful business with an excellent local reputation, Penaluna’s had clearly identified why they needed this and the benefit it would bring to them as a business, their staff and the local area.
Newer, updated and more efficient equipment would ensure a better service for their customers.
We supported this project as we are committed to supporting enterprise and entrepreneurial communities and to help businesses develop their offer. We had no doubt they would make a success of this and continue running their much-loved fish and chip shop in Hirwaun and this has been the case.
One of Penaluna’s most recent events was to celebrate D Day and National Fish & Chip Day on Cardiff Bay, cooking for and serving almost 800 people with just Fish & Chips in around 4 hours, previously they had served up to 500 people in the same time. Penaluna’s Road Chip was selected as just one of four mobiles in the country to promote the joint event.
The van has been shown off at Aberdare Festival where queue’s stretched due to volume over 60 deep to get the fish and chip shop items.
“The van is living up to the aspirations of the project title we gave it – Faster Food.
We’ve had repeat business from some large companies since the new van came along including Greggs Factory in Treforest, Devonald’s Solicitors in Pontypridd, Unilever Pot Noodle Factory Crumlin, KLA Newport along with a number of weddings in Pontypridd, Llantwit Fadre, Treorchy and a disabled Riding Centre on the edge of the Vale of Glamorgan.
We’re extremely grateful the project was assisted and supported by Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund CIC. It helped us firmly establish ourselves in the mobile Fish And Chip shop scene with a quality vehicle which no one else has, it allowed us to include technology and ideas to help the service run easier and includes, no heavy lifting of gas bottles, self-sufficiency on electric with leisure batteries and even solar panels.” – Penaluna’s
