The club had considered major renovation but after discussing with support agencies and members decided the things that would make a real difference would be replacing the floor and cladding and upgrading the electrics and kitchen area.

When they applied to us we were pleased to see a realistic plan to upgrade and future proof the clubhouse for members current and new but also they saw this refresh as an opportunity to host 4 community events and 6 celebration matches over the next 12 months to celebrate the work, their centenary and attract more of the community in.

This was refreshing to see this commitment and in 12 months’ time they should have upgraded clubhouse and new members and supporters from the local community.

“We were thrilled to receive this funding to help us commemorate the 100-year anniversary of Cymmer Bowls Club by restoring the pavilion to celebrate this historical local sporting asset which has stood for over 100 years.   This will be achieved by upgrading the clubhouse, electrics, cladding and decking. And then we will organise a series of special celebratory matches with six local teams as well as inviting the community into the pavilion to view the exhibition of old photographs on show plus telling the story of the history of the club and the site and how it was developed for the welfare of local miners. This will raise awareness amongst residents of the importance of the site and the role it has played in daily life throughout the generations and encourage the local community to reminisce on the past. Watch this space” – Darren, Cymmer Bowls
