£13,380 to Dylan’s Den for their Sustaining Families Project
Dylan’s Den is a social enterprise which was created in 2008 by community members to provide quality childcare in an area where there is little affordable childcare provision.
They are a not-for-profit organisation run by an enthusiastic voluntary management committee and offer a range of fun activities for children aged 2 – 11 years and include healthy snacks and drinks during the day.
They offer a range of indoor and outdoor activities to support all areas of children’s development and we have supported them previously with a Micro Fund grant for play and learn equipment and toys.
They approached the fund to discuss how they could support the community and offer funded places for people struggling for various reasons and we are supporting them with a grant of £13,380 which will potentially support 30 families with childcare in following circumstances:
– Childcare needed while parents/guardians look for work and attend interviews
-Childcare needed when parents or guardians have found employment and started work but waiting on first paycheck
-Families in unexpected crisis, they will work with Job Centre, family liaison officers and other local charitable groups to identify
people who may need this support.
“Some families fall through the cracks when it comes to childcare support. This grant from PyC will help Dylan’s Den continue to support families who need help when they need it most.

We will work with referral partners to target the funding to help families who could use a helping hand with childcare costs.”

Men’s Shed/Grow Rhondda, Tynewydd Rhondda – Vision Fund Grant of £11,538
This is an exciting time for the organisation. Grow Rhondda started as a Men’s Shed project using social prescribing in partnership with the Rhondda GPs at Forest View Medical Centre and the community connectors at Interlink who all worked all together on developing a network of growing areas around the upper Rhondda, this included Ysbyty George Thomas and Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda
hospital.
At the same time Men’s Shed Treorchy had been working to solidify activity and reach more people and during lockdown were offered the opportunity to take a lease on former Arts Surgery in Tynewydd and they moved in mid-2021.
At the same time Men’s Shed Treorchy had been working to solidify activity and reach more people and during lockdown were offered the opportunity to take a lease on former Arts Surgery in Tynewydd and they moved in mid-2021.
Since then, they have been overwhelmed with activity and local engagement and now they need to: start generating income / employ staff formally for the first time and employ a sessional worker to develop their Roots to Fruits project.
The funding from PyC will cover staff wages for 2 years, sessional worker costs and some project equipment and marketing. It will also cover some training costs for participants of the project who would like formal training. This modest funding award has potential to impact many people at this organisation and really allow them to develop and grow the model by which the organisation is run ensuring long term sustainability of the group, we wish them all the best and can’t wait to see how things develop.

Pontrhydyfen RFC – £15,000
Pontrhydyfen RFC, is a club with over one hundred years of history. Members of the committee, players and their families have invested their time voluntarily over the years to ensure the clubhouse is a central point for not only those involved in the club, but for those wanting to socialise locally.
In 2020, more than 30 volunteers from the area came together, supporting the bigger plans to renovate the building, ensuring the clubhouse was enjoyed by may for years to come. The committee invested heavily in updating lower parts of the clubhouse but needed support to carry on the much-needed work to the upper areas of the building.
They hope with this work completed, it will provide an additional place for people living locally to socialise and maintain an important building for years to come.

Pen y Cymoedd are committed to supporting plans to maintain buildings fit for purpose and so were happy to contribute towards their bigger plans with a grant of £15,000 to ensure community spaces in the village align with the needs of the community.
“As a club we are delighted to have been successful in our bid to Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Vision Community Fund and as with all sporting organisations the extensive challenges created by the pandemic have been damaging, nevertheless this investment will give us the impetus to more forward and turn the facility into a community hub which will encourage friendships, wider involvement with community groups and additional activities for all.” – Pontrhydyfen RFC
“Pontrhydyfen RFC is a valued building in the village. The work they have already undertaken has really brought the club into the 21st Century and with their plans to continue this renovation, with the support of more than 30 volunteers and local tradesmen, this really was a community project to ensure the building was maintained for young and old for years to come.
We cant wait to see the finished work and how this supports their bigger plans to offer the clubhouse as a place for other community groups to call home”
