Treherbert BGC were established in 1935 and own a building right next to Treherbert train station, which is open 5 days per week with around 180 regular users. The building runs a youth club, indoor football and training and is also the base for Autism Life Centres.
Back in 2021, RCT CBC announced plans for a 3G facility to be constructed at the Baglan Field in Penyrenglyn, Treherbert. This was the 14th 3G facility for RCT as part of their commitment to have a 3G within a 3 mile radius of all residents. The facility is adjacent to Penyrenglyn Primary School and provides a full-size 3G football pitch, as well as three 5-a-side pitches. The full-sized pitch is graded to Tier 3, meaning South Wales Alliance League, Cymru South League and Adran League football can be played there; whilst it will also come with a rugby shock pad, meaning that teams can also train at the facility.
The 3G was opened by football manager Rob Page in November 2022.
Although it’s a communal space, Treherbert BGC uses it six times a week. The majority of weekends and evenings are spent there, and the club’s teams have only gotten better since moving into the new space. They came to us in need of storage and a stand, having previously raised £20,000 with Sport Wales through a Crowdfunder.
“We are happy to offer the funding so that Treherbert BGC may have access to this facility, which will enhance the already fantastic setting. The Crowdfunder demonstrates the level of community support the club enjoys. We are dedicated to providing recreational opportunities that meet the requirements of the community.” – Kate Breeze, Executive Director, Pen y Cymoedd
“On behalf of everyone at Trehebert football club we would like to express our deepest gratitude for your generous donation. Your support has played a pivotal role in helping us improve our facilities.
The funds that you have provided are being used to enhance our training ground in the form of protection for our newly installed stand and provide much needed storage for our vast amount of equipment, which is used by 100s of young people and adults. Your generosity has made a substantial difference to our club, and through contributions like this we continue to grow and develop the love for our football club within the community.
Once again thank you for your support and belief in what we are trying to achieve and we look forward in updating you on the progress made over the coming weeks/months.” – Treherbert BGC
